Miscellaneous Photos From Day One - Day Fourteen

These photos were taken while DY was in the hospital.

Photo of my doctor, Dr Wee and Staff Nurse Anna.

ZY is very good at carrying her little brother as she has practiced many times with her dolls!
This is the mothercraft room that I used everyday @3p.m. to latch on DY. (May I suggest they put more comfortable chairs here?)

DY was "upgraded" to an A1 ward as a precautionary measure since he was exposed to the chicken pox via contact with ZY. The hospital was afraid that in case DY was really infected with chicken pox, the other babies in the nursery ward might get infected too.
DAY 14 - Finally going home today!!

Bay Bay Has Arrived!

Bay Bay has finally arrived on 2 March 2010 as predicted by his sister ZY.

This is my birth story:

(1 March 2010)
10 p.m. - experienced frequent Braxton Hick Kicks with mild contraction in between.
(2 March 2010)
12 a.m. - Contraction increases to 10-mintutes interval.
1 a.m. - Contraction increases to 5-7 minutes interval.
2 a.m. - Decided to go to the hospital to monitor.
3 a.m. - Reached my parents' house (walking distance from KKH) and pat ZY back to sleep. Contraction reduces to 30-minutes interval but each contraction is more painful than the earlier ones. Decided to wait and monitor at home.
6 a.m. - Reached hospital as we wanted to monitor Bay Bay with CTG scan. Nurse-on-duty announced that my cervix was already 4-cm dilated!
8.30 a.m. - Dr Wee arrived and by then my cervix was 5-cm dilated. So I was immediately admitted to the delivery ward.
9 a.m. - Had my breakfast (Chicken Porridge) at the delivery room and waited for the anaesthetist to administer epidural.
10 a.m. - Anaesthetist arrived and reconfirmed with me if I really wanted an epidural as I seemed to be really coping well and don't look like I'm suffering in extreme pain. In fact, I'm really OK with the contraction at that moment but I'm afraid of the pain of breaking my waterbag so I decided to go ahead with the epidural.
10.20 a.m. - Dr. Wee arrived to break my waterbag which I'm happy to say was PAINLESS!! ^_^
10.30 a.m. - Put on Oxytocin drip to increase the contraction.
10.30 a.m. - 12.20 p.m. - Watch TV with MW.
12.20 p.m. - Staff Nurse Anna checked and announced that I'm 8-cm dilated!
12.45 p.m. - 10-cm dilated! Contraction was 2-minutes apart according to the CTG monitor.
ACTION TIME!!
1 p.m. - Practise pushing while waiting for Dr. Wee to come out of the operating theatre.
Bay Bay arrived after 3 pushes!

Bay Bay's statistics:
Birth Weight - 3000g
Height - 50cm
Official Name - Lim Din Yang (林鼎洋)

Pregnancy @40 weeks

Bay Bay is due any day now. He is already engaged at the birth canal and is now taking his time to decide when is the best time to come out! Yesterday, I saw him sucking his thumb in the ultrasound scanning machine, too bad MW was busy at work and did not manage to accompany me this time. Dr Wee and I saw Bay Bay repeatedly putting his thumb in and out of his mouth, so cute...^_^ I immediately asked Dr Wee to print out a copy of the image so that I can show it to MW and ZY.

Bay Bay has not gained much weight since last week and hence still hovering around 3kg. Dr Wee was actually surprised to find that Bay Bay is already engaged as according to him, baby usually engaged at the last minute for 2nd pregnancy. Hence, he predicted that I might give birth soon.. Anyway, ZY did mention to me a few days ago that Bay Bay will be born on the 2nd of March, we'll see if this young lady's prediction is accurate or not! ^_^

Pregnancy @39 weeks

Bay Bay is now estimated to be 2.99kg and I've so far gained about 8kg.  Dr. Wee put me on CTG monitoring yesterday as I mentioned to him that Bay Bay has been slightly less active than the previous week. Luckily, everything is ok and my next doctor appointment will be next Friday.

As I had brought ZY along with me yesterday, Dr. Wee jokingly asked ZY why she had stayed in mommy's tummy for 5 more days and whether was it because she was very comfortable inside! ^_^
When ZY saw me strapped in the CTG belt, I can see that she was quite concerned. She kept on asking me what was that sound and where is Bay Bay.  I think ZY is getting inpatient and wants Bay Bay to come out soon! Well hopefully, Bay Bay will be out by end of next week as I'm feeling the pressure of walking around in a big tummy and gets tired very easily.

Pregnancy @ 38weeks

Counting down now.. two more weeks to go!!

Bay Bay is now at the estimated weight of 2.7kg. Since there is still lots of space in my tummy for him to move about, Dr. Wee predicted that he's probably too comfy inside to want to come out anytime sooner. ^_^

I've discussed with Dr. Wee regarding the banking of baby's blood cord as I wanted to know his opinion on this matter. Surprisingly, he told me that this procedure is actually not endorsed by the government and there is no guarantee that we are able to use the stem cell in the future for certain illnesses. I asked him if he himself will bank in his children's blood cord and he answered with a firm "NO".  Moreover, as Bay Bay is on the small side, there is also a problem of whether they are able to obtain enough blood from his umbilical cord to bank in successfully. If not successful, we still have to pay the initial $1,000+ down payment.. Hence, after discussing with MW, we will most probably opt out of banking the blood cord. Maybe we will donate the blood cord to the public blood cord bank instead, we'll decide on our next appointment in a week time.

Pregnancy @ 37 weeks

I went for my routine checkup again yesterday morning. I've so far gain about 0.9kg from my last checkup 3 weeks ago but surprisingly, Bay Bay has gained almost 1kg! (from 1.74 - 2.6kg) Well, I guess all my weight gain has go to him. ^_^

We also discussed about my birth plan with Dr. Wee and signed on to the Premium Plan with the Admisssion Department. This higher price plan ensured that Dr. Wee will be attending to me from the moment I'm admitted to the time of delivery, rather then only attended by him upon delivery. Since, I've had a "nightmare" experience when I gave birth to ZY when I was attended by a list of medical officers, I don't want to go through the same thing again this time round.

Dr. Wee again suggested to MW to give me more household chores to do =_= though I'm already doing ALL THE HOUSEWORK!!!! MW happily replied that I should mop the floor more often which Dr. Wee quickly rebutted by saying that walking on a slippery floor is too dangerous for me! Hehehe...so from now on, MW will be in charge of the moping on Doctor's order!! ^_^

Small But Mighty

ZY followed us to the hospital for my 34 week routine checkup as MW took leave today and we intend to bring her out after seeing the doctor. However, due to some other special cases, we waited for one and half hour before its our turn.

Once inside the room, ZY became very excited and kept on asking me when she could see Bay Bay in the TV (ultrasound scanning machine monitor). When she finally saw the image, she became restless as she couldn't make out the baby's head from his toe. ^_^

As I had lost some weight these couple of weeks, the doctor was concerned about the growth of the baby (my total weight gain at this moment is 6.5kg). However, after the scanning, he found that the baby is well and growing, with a current estimated weight of 1.74kg. He even mentioned that the baby is small but mighty as during the short scan, Bay Bay moved and kicked alot! (well, Bay Bay will be borned in the Year of the Tiger, so...) Dr Wee predicted that Bay Bay will probably be slightly under 3kg at birth so that means he will be around the same size as ZY who was 2.992kg at birth.

My next appointment is in another 3 weeks time, hopefully by then, Bay Bay will gain slightly more weight.

Pregnancy @30 weeks

Went for the routine checkup today and complained to Dr Wee regarding my lower pelvic pain. Luckily, he said that it is normal as Bay Bay is now still in the breech position hence he is sitting directly on my pelvic bones asserting pressure on it. Unless Bay Bay changes his position soon, the pain will increase as he grows... @_@ But luckily, the baby is on the average weight of 1.34kg now, so Dr Wee predicted that the situation will not be as bad as some of his patients who are carrying babies weighing over 4kg at birth.

I had gained about 5.8kg so far and I've still about 9 weeks to go before Bay Bay is born (so fast hor). I was given some fish oil supplements today as it is good for the baby's brain and eyes development. Even though I hate to swallow tablets, I'll endure for the sake of Bay Bay. ^_^

Pregnant @ 26weeks

Went for routine checkup yesterday and was told that bay bay is now about 900 gm and in a breach position. He is now very active day and night, it is especially difficult for me to sleep as he will kick me if I sleep side-way.

I 'm concern that bay bay will be overdue like ZY as induce labour and the artificial breaking of the waterbag is extremely painful. So I asked Dr Wee if its possible that bay bay will be overdue too and he said highly possible!!! #_#
However, he said that he will ask MW to give me more housework to do later in my pregnancy to help in the labour!! OMG! I must seriously consider changing doctor liao, shouldn't he stand on my side? I'm already doing most of the housework now, including mopping the floor while MW merely washes the dishes if I cook leh... Hehehe..just joking lah, I know Dr Wee is just trying to be helpful by suggesting ways for me to have a smoother delivery.

Anyway, took this picture today with the doctor's permission. Never got to take such photo during my previous pregnancy as I was in subsidised class then, hence always did my ultrascan in another room with the sonographer. and they always said photography is Strictly Not Allowed!

Boy Or Girl?

Went for a detailed scanning yesterday since I'm 20 week pregnant. The sonographer asked us if we wanted to know the gender of the baby. Of course, "Yes!" In fact, our whole family and some of MW's colleagues are all very eager to know. Frankily speaking, I do feel some pressure since both our parents and even MW has indicated that they would prefer the baby to be a boy. I've always wanted a girl and so I'm extremely happy when I found out that I'm pregnant with ZY. Similarly, I hoped that MW will also be able to get his wish fulfilled by having a son this time.

So, after saying so much, you may ask, "Is the baby a boy or a girl?"

Yes, MW finally got his wish, ZY is going to have a little brother. ^_^

In fact, ZY is a bit disappointed as she had pinned for a sister so that she can share her clothes and masak masak. When my mum told her that she is going to have a little brother, she promptly corrected her by saying, "NO! I'm going to have a sister!" Luckily, after some explaining and reasoning, she finally accepted it .(I hoped..)

So here it is, the scan of the "little brother". @^_^@ (This is the aerial view of the buttock.)

贝贝 (Bay Bay)

ZY has been very excited ever since we told her that mummy is going to have another baby. I told her that the baby is inside mummy's tummy and will only be out after ZY's 4 years old birthday. One day, we asked ZY what nickname we should give to the baby and after some serious thinking, ZY shouted, "BAY BAY!" Ahem... I think she means 贝贝, so from that day onwards, we have been calling the baby 贝贝.

Even though ZY is only 3 years old, she seems to understand the fact that even though the baby is inside my tummy, the baby is able to listen to what she has to say outside. Hence, ZY will very often hug my tummy and talk to the baby.

She'll say things like,
"贝贝, what are you doing?"
" 贝贝, you cannot be naughty ok?"
" 贝贝, 乖乖, 不要哭."
" Good night, 贝贝."
and then hugged my tummy so tightly that even 贝贝 protested by moving around in my tummy! ^_^"

15th week Pregnant

Visited the doctor last Sat for a routine check-up. I'm eager to see the doctor as I needed his 'ok' before proceeding to book our holiday to South Korea in October!

This is the scan taken on my 3rd visit to the doctor. The baby is now 8.9cm long. We can clearly see the baby bending one of his/her legs, which happens to be one of mummy's favourite sleeping pose! The doctor had tried to see if we were able to determine the sex of the baby, but guess it was just too early to confirm. ^_^

Someone Has Granted ZY's Wish

ZY wishes that she will have a sibling to play with, someone to boss around and a baby for her to change diaper, feed the bottle...

YES! I'm currently 14 weeks pregnant and my EDD is expected to be 28 Feb/1 Mar 2010.

One of our reasons for having another child is because we do not want ZY to feel that she is all alone when we get older, and also she do not have to make all the decisions by herself should we become ill and frail. I've seen some of my friends who are the only child in the family having to take up the sole responsibility of taking care of their parents and not having a sibling to depend on emotionally and financially. I hope that ZY and the baby would benefit from having each other -- either now or later in life.

For the past couple of months, I've been staying at my parents' house (going back to my house only during the weekends) as I've have very bad morning sickness. Maybe I should say that I've very bad afternoon sickness because my nausea will start around 3 p.m. everyday without fail and last throughout the evening till I sleep. I can't stand the smell of cooking and hated any food with garlic in it. I also don't like to eat fish which I usually loved. I also get easily agitated and will flared up whenever ZY misbehaved. (Sorry dear, I know mommy should be more patient with you... your daddy has been constantly reminding me to cool down).

Anyway, so far I've been to 3 consultations @KKH Private Suite and this ultrasound scan is the latest with the fetus at 13week + 1 day old, measuring 6.97cm.

ZY always eagerly waits for us to come home from the hospital so that she can have a look at the baby's picture! ^_^ She can identify the body parts of the fetus very well!

We asked ZY if she thinks that the baby is a girl or boy but she always changes her answer to suit her mood at that moment. Sometimes she would say that she wanted a little brother while other times she said she wanted a little sister so that she can share her clothes with her. : D Well, one more month to go before we'll know!
