Reading Times

I brought ZY to the Woodlands Regional Library yesterday. ZY loves to spend time in the library, browsing through all types of books. She is now trying to read and would tell me all the words that she recognises in the book.

Found this interesting books by the author Marie-Louise Fitzpatrick, recommended by fellow blogger, Stardust. Simple sentences and cute illustrations attracted ZY's attention especially the books titled "Silly Mommy and Daddy" and "Silly School".

Recently, my brother brought back a book titled, "Where's Wally?" for ZY and our whole family is hooked on it! The book's illustrations are very captivating and it consists of games for us to search for the main characters. It's very challenging and really test our eyesight and patience. We have had great time trying to see who can be the first to find Wally, Wizard Whitebeard, Wenda and Woof!

We found this interactive CD-Rom from the library and is having great fun in the search and find adventure, scouring the virtual globe. I think we are hooked on it! ^_^

Chinese Book Spree

I've recently joined a book spree from a forum for these Chinese books. It's really a great deal but most importantly, ZY loves them! ^_^

Also bought some parenting books for myself after seeing the good reviews.

How We Spend Our Free Time

Recently ZY is hooked on this internet website that was recommended in a parenting magazine. It's a very interesting and fun site as it teaches children alphabets, sequencing, songs and many more. Many childcare facilities in the western countries encourages their children to "play" the many games in the site. Click on this link: http://www.poissonrouge.com/poissonrouge.php (ZY has added it as her favourite webpage! ^_^)

This is what ZY had done (scribble) using one of the application. Look like some kind of abstract painting by a famous artist, doesn't it? ^_^

Another recommendation is a book that I'm reading now about parenting. It is a very popular book written by a Japanese and has won many awards. I find it an easy read and I especially love the cartoon illustrations found at the beginning of each topics. Many times, I found myself laughing at the illustrations as I can see myself doing the exact same thing as the mummy in it!

A Day @ Causeway Point

We went to Causeway point this morning as I wanted to borrow some VCD/DVD at the Woodlands Regional Library. I've got a free one year premium membership and has yet to fully utilized it as we usually goes to Sembawang Library which does not carry any VCD/DVD. However, Woodlands Regional Library, being such a HUGE branch has a very pathetic range of Audio/Video. I only managed to borrow a VCD of Nursery Songs for ZY and a DVD named "The French Chef with Julia Child". I'm interested to know more about Julia Child as I've recently read a novel whereby the author of the novel Julie Powell embarked on a year long project to complete all the 524 recipes in Julia Child's legendary cookbook, Mastering the Arts of French Cooking. I just loved novels that includes love, cooking, family and friendship all in one! ^^

I'm also contemplating on embarking on such a project myself... will blog about it if I finally decided to do so. ^v^

We also had our lunch at Jack's Place and ZY has had her first kid's meal today! ZY will usually share my food when we dined out but since we were super hungry today, we ordered a kid's meal especially for her. See how happy this little girl was with her Fish n' Chips, er... ok, I confessed, she was far more interested in her chips than her fish, which she only managed to finish half of it. And as expected, she loves the sweet corn and zucchini. :D

She also loved her scoop of velvety chocolate ice-cream and will have no problem finishing the whole thing if mummy did not steal some from her. Hehehe.. no doubt this girl has inherited her mummy's love of chocolate!

Shanghai Bookstore Closing Down Sale

Today I went to Bras Basah complex intending to buy some more English story books for ZY from my usual bookshop. I found this bookshop situated at the 4th floor last year and has since bought lots of cheap & nice books from there. I am such a regular customer of that shop till I've befriended the shop assistant there. She will call me when there are new arrivals and reserved the books for me :)

Anyway, while I'm browsing at the books and chatting with her, she told me that Shanghai Bookstore which is situated at the ground floor is having closing down sale. Hence, after paying for the 3 books that I've chosen, being the kiasu Singaporean that I am, I quickly went down to have a look. To my surprise, the bookstore really looks like its going to close down (unlike many gimmicks whereby the so call closing down sale goes on & on for months...). There are many books lying everywhere, and many people are inside concentrating of finding good buys.

I've long wanted to buy some Chinese books for ZY, but I really don't know what to buy and which types of books are suitable for her age group. Out of all the books that I've bought for her so far, none of them are in Chinese language. I am hoping to get some Chinese books for her so that I can teach her the wonderful language...ok ok, that's all my excuses..I just can't let a good bargain passes by, can I?? 90% OFF leh..

So after looking high and low, left and right, I managed to grab all these books for ZY. 20 books for only $21!!!!!! Wow, this is what I mean a super duper bargain!!!! :D Hee hee, please pardon me for being so kiasu, grabbing 20 books at a go, but this is really good buy, I've never in my life seen a 90% discount on anything. Never!

All these Chinese books for ONLY $21 :D
(Though some of the books are still way too early to introduce to ZY now, I can always keep them for future!)

Sesame Street Books

I received a Border online 30% discount voucher sometime ago and so decided to go down and buy some books for ZY. I always make use of these online vouchers as it helps me to save a bundle. Borders has lots of Sesame Street books which other bookstores don't carry. What's more, sometimes Borders even offer 40% discount, and during those times, you can see me going crazy in the store looking at books for both ZY and me :D

These are the books that I've bought during my recent book spree..

Total Cost of all 3 books is $35, super money saving!!! :D

I only bought books for ZY this time round as I still have lots of unread novels that I've bought during the Borders Warehouse Sale (super cheap too @$3/book). Hiaz..I really don't have as much time as I like to indulge in reading nowaday, esp now that I've started this blog. Really enjoy the pre-ZY time when I can finish reading a super thick Maeve Binchy's novel in just 3 days!

The Children Club @ Moulmein

There is a children library a stone throw away from my mum's place. It is formerly a public children's library run by the National Library Board. However, due to poor response (as reported by NLB), the library is closed down on April this year. Luckily, a private organisation agreed to take over the operation of the library and hence it reopened just a week ago :)

Today, I took ZY to the library, now renamed as The Children Club, to have a look inside. The person-in-charged told me that since the club is privatised now, we need to become a member ($5/child for 2 years) in order to utilize the facilities. However, since ZY is less than 5 years old, she is not required to become a member unless she wants to borrow the books :)

Overall, this library is quite a cozy place and with the built in toilet, its great to bring ZY here for both reading and playing at the playground located just in front of it :)
